Hi y'all,

I spent the morning cleaning the coffee and water I spilled with the cap not being as securely tightened as I thought. I'm off to a rocky start.

I had a hard time picking a piece for my news since I started taking pre orders on the tarot deck, but haven't heard back from the manufacturer on the box since I put the order in at the beginning of the month. So I decided to hold off and talk about this commission instead.

I'm always hesitant to post fan work commissions since well, I don't think they get posted to the newsletter, plus it was such taboo back in college. Thinking for more than a second on that taboo, it seems stupid doesn't it? Working in comics it's all fan art right? most people working in DC and Marvel don't create new characters unless they're writers and there was no writing portion in my college. It was all just "do it all yourself." Which I think was wrong to do. It didn't really breed an environment of collaboration.

That aside, it was fun to draw a colorful character with lightning and what not. I feel like my clients tend to want more monstrous things or pinups, so I don't get many requests for guys. I think the most challenging portion was giving him some sense of a five o clock shadow, which sort of got lost in the lighting, but overall I think turned out fine.
