Weird how summer convention rush always starts in July and not June.

Hey Y'all!

So I have here some new prints coming to my online store plus conventions in the next coming weeks. I'll be at Anime Expo next week and I may be a little overprepared on print count, but praying that I don't have to do reprints at the show while also hoping to go home with some empty suitcases. Odd that I'm still waiting to hear back on two shows for the rest of the year, but thems the breaks sometimes. I wanted to do a news article about my full year's lineup but that can be the next news article as I'm sure I'll get some rejection emails for NYCC and Anime Frontier by then haha. It's been quite a while since they let me back in.

I have a portfolio review in the next two weeks so I'm sure I'll have more to talk about in that upcoming news article regarding how it went on top of my con schedule. I personally want to put this cover image in my portfolio, even though it's fan art. It just sort of looks like candy to me and tickles a specific part of my brain haha. Fan art is always so weird as I remember a real stigma about having it in your portfolio when I was in college. I feel I also was very down on people doing fan art back then. Oh how the times have changed haha.

I'm not the most confident in this upcoming review mainly due to general anxieties and what not. There's also like, and this feeling is hard to put into words, a sort of indecisiveness about it. I feel like this is going into an interview and expecting that I'll get the question: "What are you trying to do?" or "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Which are both in my opinion, awful questions if you want to get to know a potential hire. 5 years is such a long time and the world is so unpredictable, like how could I possibly see a future beyond tomorrow? To be honest I don't know what I'm even trying to do with art even after 15+ years doing conventions, comics, commissions, and the like. All I know is that I'll take what work I'm given and do it to the best of my ability, but that's not usually what a recruiter wants to hear in my experience. There's a need for a certain decisive action and understanding of who you are as an artist, which I've never had a strong sense of self in that regard.

Lots to chew on in the coming weeks as I prepare my 5-8 pieces for the review. Wish me luck!
